Permanent Account Number (PAN) is a unique identification code given by the Income tax department. PAN is essential for various purposes like filing the income tax returns, opening bank account, GST registration, etc.
The process of procuring a physical PAN card is lengthy and requires a minimum of 15 days. To overcome these difficulties the IT-department has introduced the new guidelines of applying for an instant E – pan.
An E-Pan is a digitally signed PAN card issued in electronic format by the I-T department. The E – Pan the e-PAN is a valid proof of PAN. It contains a QR code which contains demographic details of the PAN applicant such as name, date of birth and photograph. These details are accessible through a QR code reader. The e-PAN is duly recognised by Notification No. 7 of 2018 dated December 27, 2018, issued by the Principal Director General of Income-Tax (Systems)
- Pre-requiste for applying for E-pan
– The applicant must have a valid Aadhar Card
– The applicant’s Mobile number must be linked with the Aadhar card
- Steps to Apply
- Visit incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in
- Click on the quick link option, under the said option click on the tab – “’Instant PAN through Aadhaar’’.
- Click on the tab “ Get New Pan”
- Enter your Aadhaar number, captcha code, and confirm. You will be required to select a tick box. The tick box will confirm that:
1. You have never been allotted a PAN
2. Your mobile number is linked with Aadhaar number
3. Your complete date of birth in (DD-MM-YYYY) format is available on Aadhaar card
4. You are not minor as on application date of PAN.
5. You have read the terms and conditions. - Click on ‘Generate Aadhaar OTP’. A one-time password (OTP) will be sent on your mobile number registered in Aadhaar database.
- Enter the OTP in the required space.
- Validate your Aadhaar details. Check if the name, date of birth and other details shown are correct.
- Once the details are submitted successfully, an acknowledgement number will be generated. Acknowledgement number will be sent to you via SMS and email (if given).
E – Pan facility is a vital step towards digital India. It has now also become an alternative for submitting the scanned copies of PAN cards on the site.
